SPC Zachary Shannon was born October 28th, 1991to Kim and Chip Allison. He graduated from Dunedin High School in 2010. He had been a member of the ROTC. SPC Shannon, a Black Hawk crew chief, joined the Army in August 2010 and arrived at the unit in April 2012. This was his first deployment.

SPC Shannon had volunteered for a deployment to Afghanistan and had no qualms about doing so, even if it ultimately meant giving his life. He told his mother that his deployment would allow someone else to come home to his or her family.

Zach loved fishing and his Tampa Bay sports teams.

High school officials describe him as energetic, dedicated, and polite and a prankster.

“Zach died doing what he loved,” said a neighbor. “From the time he was a kid, he would dress up in military uniforms for Halloween. Every single year he was something military. He would borrow his older brother’s uniforms and that was his costume.”
