Holstein resident, Sgt. Wayne R. Cornell, 26, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq.

Sergeant Cornell was born August 3, 1980 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Larry W. Cornell & Pat (Christensen) Perrie. He graduated from Silver Lake High School, Roseland, Nebraska in 1999. He married Patricia Warburton on June 24, 2002. He was a member of Troop A 167th Calvary of the Nebraska National Guard for 4 years before joining the United States Army in 2005 at Fort Riley, Kansas. He was a member of HHC,1-28 IN, 4BCT, 1ID. He participated in Hapkido and was a 3rd Degree Black Belt Tae Kwon Do, volunteer fireman EMT in Holstein, and V.F.W. in Grand Island. He was a past member of the Hastings Police Department Explorers. He loved his family.
