PRESCOTT, AZ, USA U.S. Army SPC, HHC, 7TH SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE, FORT EUSTIS, VA TALLIL, IRAQ 03/12/2008
My son, Tenzin L. Samten was born November 16, 1974 in San Diego, California where he lived all his life until 2004. Hoping the job market would be better, he moved his family to Prescott, Arizona but it was worse than San Diego. Taking his cue from his nephews who joined the Marine Corps, he started checking out the military for himself.
At the age of 31 he joined the Army in order to give his family a better life. Because of injuries his basic and Advanced Infantry training took almost 10 months but he was determined to finish. When he came to get his family he had such a pride in himself, his uniform and his country. They moved to Ft. Eustis, Virginia in May of 2007 where they began their lives together. It was the best times of their life.
He deployed to Tallil, Iraq in October of 2007. He was a good soldier and was lovingly called Grandpa because of his age. On March 12, 2008 the vehicle he was in was hit by a random mortal attack, killing 3 of the 5 soldiers inside. He was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery on March 24, 2008.
He leaves behind a wife and 3 children (an older son from his first marriage), his brother and me, his mother. There are also many Aunts, Uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins. None of our lives will ever be the same again. My son died a Hero who gave his life unselfishly for his country. I am so proud of the man he was and I will love and miss him forever.
