Sergeant Steven L Talamantez was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 5, 1977. As a boy he participated in various sporting activities and church group Royal Rangers. In 1993 Steven lost his older brother in a tragic spring break accident becoming an only surviving child. In 1994 Steven became a father to son Joseph Briones. Steven worked in construction and contracting until the age 30 when Steven decided he wanted a better career path for himself and his family which now included wife Sandra Talamantez and step-daughter Alexandra Menchaca. Steven married and enlisted in the Army in 2007, graduating from bootcamp in May 2008. He then deployed to Mosul Iraq in December 2008 just after the sudden loss of his father, returning November 2009. His second and last deployment was February 1, 2011. Steven was killed by indirect fire in Iraq on July 10, 2011.

Steven was a very dedicated soldier, friend, and family man. He enjoyed helping people however he could and volunteered when time allowed. He was a playful joker and the most serious leader at the same time. He knew many people and was loved by many.
