SAN ANTONIO, TX, USA U.S. Marine Corps LCPL, C CO, 1ST BN, 3D MAR, (31ST MEU, 1ST MAR DIV), 3D MAR DIV, KANEOHE BAY, HI KOREAN VILLAGE, IRAQ 01/26/2005

Known as Dain, Rairdan was personable and made friends easily. He dropped his weight from 230 to 200 pounds so he could join the Marines after graduating from high school, and weighed 146 pounds by the end of boot camp. His father is a retired master sergeant in the Air Force, and his grandfathers and uncles were military men.

Dain was in the AFJROTC program at Medina Valley all four years, and part of the Medina Valley High School 20009th AFJROTC Black Hawks drill team. He regularly participated in the color guard displaying the National Colors during local ceremonies and school sporting events. Dain was raised in an Air Force family and lived in many different places. He loved Castroville and considered it his adopted home town. Dain wanted to be a Marine for most of his young life. There are many things that he learned and developed in the AFJROTC program that helped him realize his dream to be one of the few, and the proud.

The AFJROTC program at Medina Valley was one of the few things that he truly and fully engulfed himself in during his four years at Medina Valley High School. The AFJROTC program at Medina Valley is an Air Force program that prepares students who invest the time and energy with life skills for success in either the military or a civilian career pursuit.

In his letters, Rairdan wrote he was doing what he wanted to do, and that he enjoyed what he was doing, David Rairdan said. He is also survived by his mother, Kimberly.
