Phillip Cody Ford, of Freeport, Texas, is remembered as a fabulous and outgoing boy. He wasn’t scared about anything. Ford enjoyed snowboarding and other winter sports. He had long been an outdoorsman, particularly enjoying hunting. He was very patriotic; if he saw someone wearing an Army shirt, he’d ask if they were really in the Army.

C.W. Hunter remembered how a rambunctious Cody and his brother, Tanner, would play in the water-filled ditch on their street as kids. Everybody in the community easily recognized Ford’s yellow pickup. He was a 2004 high school graduate.

Specialist Phillip C. Ford, 21, was killed in action by a roadside bomb on December 10, 2006, in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near a Multi-National Division Baghdad patrol. He was assigned to the Army Active duty 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry, in Fort Richardson, Alaska.
