Private First Class, 2nd Mazowiecka Sapper Brigade based in Kazun. He was deployed with Poland’s contingent of NATO forces serving in Afghanistan.

He was one of three Polish soldiers killed, along with another injured, when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb during a combat patrol about 20 km from their base in Ghazni province. The dead were later repatriated to Warsaw and each received a posthumous promotion in rank. In addition, each was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the the Order of the Military Cross.

Pawel Brodzikowski, aged 25, came from Nasielsk. He is survived by his parents Tadeusz and Jadwidze, family and fiancée Aneta. His funeral was held August 26, 2008 in his hometown.
