Patrick A. Malone wanted to be a Marine throughout his childhood. But it was at the age of 11, during a visit to Camp Lejeune, where his big sister was a Marine, that the dream took root.
He was remembered by family members as never wanting to be a hero. He just wanted to be a part of something bigger than himself. He wanted to help people. He wanted to protect people.
Even in Iraq, he was constantly online and on the phone with friends and family catching up. He sent his friend three dozen roses on Valentine”s Day. Even on the day he died, Patrick made a flurry of calls to family members to say hello and to apologize for missing his grandmother’s birthday party.
Malone’s eclectic interests included reading philosophy and meditating. He loved adventure, too. For his 22nd birthday in May, family members planned to take him sky diving when he came to visit during a scheduled break.
A native of Leominster, Massachusetts, Patrick Antonio moved to the Ocala area in 1995. He was a graduate of Vanguard High School, where he was in the R.O.T.C. program for 4 years.
He later attended college at both the University of South Florida, and Central Florida Community College, before enlisting in the Marine Corps. He was accomplished in the Martial Arts, holding a Brown Belt in Karate. Patrick is survived by his parents, Damian and Neida Lucy Malone, step-sisters Andrea Pietronuto, and Jennifer Hopper, maternal grandmother Iris Serrano, and paternal grandmother Antonia Malone.
