CONFLUENCE, PA, USA U.S. Army PFC, COMPANY C, 1ST BATTALION, 24TH INFANTRY (TF LIBERTY), FORT LEWIS, WA MOSUL, IRAQ 08/04/2005

“Funny, loving.” “a faithful friend”. “the lightest and kindest heart I’ve ever known”. “the center of all our joy and fun and laughter”..

Nils was a native of New Brighton, New York and lived there until his family moved to Pennsylvania in 2000. He wanted to join the military since he was a very young boy; inspired by relatives who served.

While deployed, he phoned home every week and sent relatives upbeat letters and emails. He hoped to return home to his parents’ 100-acre farm after he completed his time with the Army.

Nils was killed by enemy fire while on a routine patrol at an Iraqi police station on August 4th 2005, just one day after his 19th birthday.

He is survived by his parents, Nils M. and Frances, and his 14-year old sister, Lily.
