As a teenager Nicholas Manoukian would get into mischievous trouble, charm the girls, and keep his friends laughing. An avid snowboarder and hockey player, he often drew and sketched, which led him to pursue a designing career. Nick could often be found tapping out a tune on his prized Pearl drum set.

Training at Parris Island, SC, and later at the Marine base in Twenty-nine Palms, CA, Manoukian was proud to be a Marine. The Marines gave him the challenge he was always looking for, as well as a belonging, a brotherhood. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, NC

In March 2005 Lance Corporal Nick Manoukian was deployed to Fallujah, where he served as a radio operator.
