PRINCE GEORGE, VA, USA U.S. Marines PFC, H&S CO, 1ST BN, 5TH MAR, 1ST MARDIV, CAMP PENDLETON, CA IRAQ 05/18/2004

On May 18, 2004, Michael Marvin Carey went to be with the Lord. Michael died in the line of duty, while serving his country in Iraq. He was fighting for the freedom that we so easily take for granted. Mike was a great Marine and friend to all that knew him. Carey split his teenage years between Hopewell, where his father lived, and Amelia County, where his mother lived. He earned his GED at age 16 and attended ECPI.

He is survived by his wife, Heather Carey and his new daughter, Mia, born on May 5; his father, William and stepmother, Darlene Carey; mother, Sandra Rhodes and stepfather, Robert Rhodes; two brothers, Kristopher Carey, Travis Rhodes; and one sister, Tanda Carey Murphy; his grandmothers, Laura Croom, Elsie Smith, and Elizabeth Irving; and grandfather, Emory Irving. He is also survived by a large number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
