PLAIN CITY, OH, USA U.S. Army CPL, E TROOP, 2D SQUADRON, 11TH ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT, FORT IRWIN, CA BAGHDAD, IRAQ 04/23/2005

Army Specialist Kevin William Prince dreamed of going to Spain with his sister and brother-in-law when his tour of duty in Iraq was over.

Prince lived in Canton until age two, then moved to Plain City in central Ohio with parents Susan and Ron Prince. His parents live in Mount Gilead, but grandparents William and Evelyn Martin live in Hartville.

Prince joined the Army in the fall of 2001, not long after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He joined the Army for the opportunities it afforded – he wanted to go to college.

Kevin graduated boot camp at Fort Benning, Georgia, and then was stationed out at Fort Irwin in the Mojave Desert in California. He really enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow soldiers and always had their backs. He stood up for what was right and for what he believed in.

Kevin was called up to go to Iraq in January 2005. He bravely accepted his mission in life. Kevin was in Iraq for 3 months when the Humvee he was in was hit by an IED. Kevin died of injuries sustained in this attack. He will be forever remembered for his sense of humor, charm, loyalty and courage.

Specialist Prince, 22, who was with the 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, was killed April 23, 2005.

Kevin W. Prince’s grandfather, a World War II veteran, managed to talk him out of joining the Marines, but not the Army. It wasn’t the only time he didn’t listen to his grandpa.

More than 100 mourners attended a memorial service for Prince in North Woodbury, Ohio, 45 miles northeast of Columbus. Pictures at the memorial showed Prince wearing a black tuxedo with a prom date and in fatigues holding a rifle. His sister-in-law, Ember Prince, said God sent Kevin Prince to Iraq to help “protect the freedom we enjoy.”
