BAGHDAD, IRAQ 08/02/2007

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Master Sergeant Julian Ingles Rios, 52, of Anasco, Puerto Rico, died Aug. 2 in Baghdad when his HMMWV was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade. He was assigned to the 130th Engineer Battalion, of the Puerto Rico National Guard, at Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13).

Julián was my neighbor, my friend, and my brother. Words cannot express the blessing of having had a friend like him nor the pain we are left with. May these words by John help assuage the grief we are going through, with the consolation that it was he, our friend Julián, who heeded the LORD’s call.

Say not farewell, for we will meet again.
