Sergeant Escobedo was an Albuquerque, New Mexico native. After he graduated from high school, he served 11 years with the United States Marine Corps. He took a year break then enlisted in the Army in 2007. He was honored with many service medals during his dual Service branch career. Jose was born in Albuquerque. He served in the Marine Corps for 11 years after he graduated from high school. The decorated sergeant is survived by his wife, Angelica, and their three children, Elvida, 9; Jose, 4; and Mikey, 2 whom he loved very much.

Sergeant Jose R. Escobedo Jr., 32, of Albuquerque, N.M., died March 20, 2009 in Baghdad, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident the night before at Forward Operating Base Kalsu in Iskandariyah, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment in Schweinfurt, Germany.
