MCKINNEY, TX, USA U.S. Army 2LT, COMPANY B, 1ST BATTALION, 22D INFANTRY, FORT HOOD, TX BAGHDAD, IRAQ 10/13/2006
2nd Lieutenant Johnny Keith Craver was born in 1969 and raised in Mckinney, Texas. His parents, Phyllis and Kenneth Craver said that he was their “Miracle” son, having survived an automobile accident as a teenager. Johnny served over 20 years in the military as an Airborne Ranger and platoon leader in the U.S. Army. He started his military career by attending Infantry Officer Basic Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon completing his course, he was assigned to Fort Hood Texas. There he attended Officer Candidate School and graduated in 2005. He was then commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and ultimately deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom as a 2nd platoon leader, Company B, 1st Battalion, 22nd infantry, 4th infantry Division.
On October 13, 2006 Johnny was killed in Baghdad, Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. 2nd Lieutenant Craver earned the following awards during his service to our country: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (3OLD), the Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal, The Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
Johnny Keith Craver was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife Natalie, daughters Casondra and Savanah Craver, Emma, and son Caelen of Harker Heights, Texas.
His friends would say that Johnny was a competitor and very serious about everything but he also never lost his sense of humor. He always tried to focus on what was important and not to stress too much about anything. He was serious about being a ranger and loved training other Rangers. He will be greatly missed.
