PORTLAND, TN, USA U.S. Air Force TSGT, 39TH AIRLIFT SQUADRON, DYESS AFB, TX LANSDSTUHL 08/05/2007

Technical Sergeant Joey D. Link, of the 39th Airlift Squadron, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas died of natural causes at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. He was twenty-nine years old. His Air Force unit was supporting Operational Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. He also supported the Combined Joint Task Force in the Horn of Africa.

Joey Link was a 10-year Air Force veteran and said he decided to become a flight engineer because it gave him a direct role in the Air Force flying mission. He had always loved flying, so this it was the perfect job for him. Before pinning on his flight engineer wings, he had served as a B-52 and B-1B crew chief and also did a tour as a recruiter. He was part of a C-130 Hercules aircraft crew.

Technical Sergeant Link’s family members note that his work in the Persian Gulf had included various missions to Iraq, Africa and other places safely. But he became ill shortly after a trip to Africa and was subsequently transported to Landstuhl Medical Center, where he did not recover.

Technical Sergeant Link was from Abilene, Texas but formerly from Portland, Tennessee and is survived by his wife, a daughter, and two sons.
