Staff Sergeant Jeffrey Alan Hall was a squad leader with the 10th Mountain Division, 2-87th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team Serving in Wardak Province, Afghanistan when he was killed while patrolling a village in search for the enemy. He was 28 years of age.
SSG Jeffrey Alan Hall was born to be a Soldier and a leader. At the age of 3, he began wearing his camo’s and playing army. Immediately out of high school, he joined the army and in the short span of less than 8 years, he rose to the rank of staff sergeant.
SSG Jeffrey Alan Hall was always 150%. When he walked into a room, you felt his presence. He embraced life with zest, enthusiasm, curiosity, courage, honor and love of God. He loved and lived his life to the fullest. One of his favorite mottos was “Set the Standard”. He was a born leader who led by example. His Soldiers said “he was the best leader, Soldier and mentor that a Soldier could have.” He was a Soldier’s Soldier but he also had a very loving and gentle heart. He was a devoted husband and father and son.
The day of his death, SSG Hall was doing what he loved, surrounded by those who had the utmost respect for him, his fellow Soldiers, when he voluntarily moved his vehicle to the front of the platoon formation because “Rangers lead the way.” His company commander said that SSG Hall was always “in the front” of anything they did.
He was a graduate of the Ranger Course, Airborne Course, Jumpmaster Course and Warrior Leader Course among others. SSG Hall had two previous deployments to Afghanistan, December 2001 to April 2002 and January 2006 to May 2007.
Jeffrey’s company commander recited the following quote which he felt personified him as a Soldier, a leader and a man: “When a warrior fights not for himself, but for his brothers, when his most passionately sought goal is neither glory nor his own life’s preservation, but to spend his substance for them, his comrades, not to abandon them, not to prove unworthy of them, then his heart truly has achieved contempt for death, and with that he transcends himself and his actions touch the sublime.” [From Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield]
SSG Hall is survived by his wife, Allison, daughter, Audrey Faith, mother, Annette, father, Charles and sister, Emily Pruitt.
