POLISH ARMY CPL, 3RD ASSAULT COMPNEY, 18 BIESKI AIRBORNE-ASSAULT BATTALION 08/09/2004, AL HILLAH, IRAQ


POLISH MILITARY PERSONNEL IN THE INTERNATIONAL STABILIZATION FORCES IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRAQ


Corporal Grzegorz Rusinek – a mortar gunner, 3rd Assault Company, 18 Bielsko Airborne-Assault Battalion – was killed on August 19, 2004.


CPL Rusinek served in the composition of the third shift – he performed mandated tasks by participating in a patrol going to the city center of Al Hillah, to strengthen the local police station. As a result of a road accident caused by shelling by Iraqi rebels, he suffered serious injuries, which in consequence caused his death.


CPL Rusinek is buried at the Gliwice-Sośnica Parish Cemetery, ul. Graveyard.


He was posthumously decorated by the President of the Republic of Poland with the Cross of Merit Dzialność. PPRP – reg. 199/2004 – August 20, 2004 And posthumously appointed military Corporal.

CPL Rusinek was honored with a posthumous entry in the Book of Honor of the Polish Army in 2005.


A plaque commenorating Corporal Grzegorz Rusinek ndt. was unveiled in the Garrison Church in Gliwice on September 13, 2009.
