Garrett McLead, a 2002 graduate of Rockport-Fulton High School, was a member of First Baptist Church of Rockport. He played varsity tennis and soccer in high school and was a member of several school clubs. Garrett was well known in high school. He also played the saxophone in the high school band and had a tight-knit crew of friends.
Garrett had a great smile and always was happy. He was an outgoing, popular young man who loved to surf. He was always a real upbeat kid. He and his buddies were always up to something, but in a good way. McLead’s friends and family will remember his sense of humor most, his prankster nature and his sense of adventure.
Described as an adventure seeker who changed from a moppy-haired teen to a clean-cut soldier overnight, the enthusiastic soldier re-enlisted after his first term. He had a strong spiritual side and a real deep faith. That’s what gave him the courage to do what he did as a soldier.
Survivors include his parents, Patrick and Patti McLead of Aransas Pass; a brother, Mason McLead of Austin; and his grandparents, Norman and Jean Faye McLead of Rockport.
