Donald Eugene Fisher II, of Avon, Massachusetts, was part of a large and patriotic military family. As a kid, he cried because someone stole the flag off of the family’s flagpole. He was very committed. He was calm and even-keeled, and never really got mad at anybody. No matter how bad a situation was, he could put a smile on your face.
Fisher was a 2002 high school graduate and joined the military that year, and he later re-enlisted for another six-year stint. Donald and his older brother, Robert, who served the country as a soldier, gave their father a framed post-Sept. 11 print that shows a firefighter handing off to a soldier, with the soldier saying, “We’ll take it from here”. This expressed to their father, who had a 12-year army career, that he had done his part and they were going to do theirs.
One sister served in the National Guard.
Corporal Donald E. Fisher, 21, died on November 11, 2005, in a vehicle collision in Kirkut, Iraq. He was assigned to the Army Active duty 40th Transportation Co., 44th, at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Washington.
