PORTLAND, OR, USA U.S. Army SGT, HHC, 2D BATTALION, 162D INFANTRY, (1ST CAVALRY DIVISION), COTTAGE GROVE, OR 97424 BAGHDAD, IRAQ 09/25/2004

Sergeant David W. Johnson was raised in Colton, Oregon. He joined the Army in 1987 and served for 4 years. Not liking the discipline all that much, he got out and bummed around for awhile trying to find out who he was.

He discovered his passion for cooking and decided it made a whole lot better living than following his passion for music. He worked at several upscale restaurants and a friend encouraged him to join the National Guard saying man we could use your cooking.

David found out this time around he enjoyed the National Guard and made a lot of friends. They loved his sense of humor and his generous spirit always offering to help. On Sept 25, 2004 David was on a routine supply convoy headed to Camp Taji when an IED exploded under his vehicle. He was killed. We honor his service and his dedication to his fellow soldiers. David was a hero because he got up every day without complaint and did his job. We are proud of all of our soldiers.
