ELYRIA, OH, USA U.S. Army SGT, COMPANY A, 1ST BATTALION, 16TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, FORT RILEY, KS 66442 AL TAQADDUM, IRAQ 08/15/2004

First and foremost, Daniel Shepherd was an incredible father. Even though he was deployed when our son, named Danny after his father, was born, he still made sure to keep up with his little life every day with phone calls and pictures. We were so excited for September (his re-deployment date) to come so that we could be a family.

Unfortunately, he was killed in August just a few weeks before his unit returned home. I’d like people to think of and remember Sergeant Danny Shepherd as an unbelievably funny guy. He would do anything to make someone laugh. His parents would tell you how energetic he always was, especially as a little boy, and how adventurous he was. He always wanted to be in the military and enjoyed serving his country and earning his rank as an E-5 Sergeant.

More than anything though, he loved his family. He really was an all around incredible son, brother, husband and father.
