ROY, UT, USA

U.S. Army

PFC, COMPANY C, 1ST BATTALION, 23RD INFANTRY, 3RD SBCT, (4ID), FORT LEWIS, WA

BAGHDAD, IRAQ 08/27/2006

Being a strong guy, Daniel G. Dolan might have given the impression that he was a tough, macho type. When it came to his younger sister, that became clearer.

Man, when his little sister would get picked on by any guys, that kid would drop anything he was doing and go get ’em, and be like, ‘You go apologize to my sister right now,’ said Candace Sallade, who had known Dolan since sixth grade.

Dolan, 19, of Roy, Utah, was killed Aug. 27 by small-arms fire during combat operations in Baghdad. He graduated high school last year and was assigned to Fort Lewis.

Dolan loved apple-flavored chewing tobacco and talked incessantly of his snowboarding exploits and what he described as the only girlfriend I need: his Subaru STi sports car. He once performed a rendition of I’m a Little Teapot in front of his platoon. Dolan also was teased for the fancy gadgets and Under Armour gear he wore with his uniform. He went out and spent $400 on his kit, said Specialist Greg Sbaldigi. We called him Delta Dan.

He liked to be the one everybody depended on for something, said Sallade.

He also is survived by his parents, Tim and Fay.
