“If you knew Bryan you liked him. While he could certainly be tough when he had to be, he also was the ‘nicest and sweetest’ person you could ever hope to meet.”

Marine Corporal Bryan J Scripsick, 22, of Wayne, Okla.; assigned to 3rd Assault amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died Sept. 6, 2007, while conducting combat operations in the Anbar province, Albu Hyatt, Iraq.

“I believe the circumstances of his death prevented the deaths of a whole bunch of people in the marketplace where the bomber was trying to get to. A whole lot of Iraqi women and children are alive today because of what Bryan did.”

A 2004 graduate of Pauls Valley High School, where he played safety and wide receiver on the football team, he did not strike his brother as the Marine type. But “he was determined to serve his country and no one would have been able to talk him out of it, anyway.” Brad joined right after his birthday in August of that same year.

A fun loving spirit, his mantra was “Have Fun, Stay Young.” He was youthful and full of bravado. His exuberance was echoed in the number of residents, including school children and their teachers, lining the streets of Pauls Valley with red, white and blue balloons or flags as the funeral procession traveled through town.

Bryan is survived by his parents, John and Jan, and his brother, Brett. They received a Purple Heart and Certificate of Honorable Service from the secretary of the Navy awarded for Bryan.
