HUMNOKE, AR, USA U.S. Army SSG, HHC, 39TH COMBAT SUPPORT BATTALION, CAMP ROBINSON, NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR 72199 TAJI, IRAQ 04/24/2004

Army Staff Sergeant Billy Orton was from Humnoke, Arkansas.

Colleagues counted on Billy to find supplies regardless of how disorganized they were-they knew he could find whatever they needed.

His practical skills were also recognized and loved by his mother, who cherished the work he performed around the house and on her cabinets. The sound of Billy coming through the door was always eagerly welcomed both in Iraq and at home.

With glasses that slipped down his nose, and a constant mouth of tobacco, Billy was a friend to many. His life revolved around his love for the military. Throughout his youth, he long dreamed of enlisting in the Army, which he did in 1981. He was called a “true soldier.”

The one thing that rivaled his love for the military, was the love he showed for his family. His wife was presented with the Bronze Star and Purple Heart at his memorial service, where the pastor told his three children to stand tall and stand proud, as their father was truly an American hero.
