Albert F. “Starky” Starkenburg was remembered on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at a Memorial Mass at Holy Rosary Church in Edmonds, WA. The life of Al Starkenburg was celebrated at the Parish Center immediately following the Mass. An “Honor Guard” of VFW Post 8870 members was front and center to bid their comrade farewell. At the December VFW Post meeting Fallen Heroes Project artist Mike Reagan presented a portrait of Al to his wife and family.

Al lived his entire life in Washington, in Ellensburg, Shoreline and Carnaton. Al was a U.S. Marine, having served during the Korea War in 1954-55. Following his discharge, Al returned home, and attended Everett Community College where he played football. He worked in sales in the food and beverage industry until his retirement.

Al passed away unexpectedly at home. Al is survived by his wife Naomi, his 4 children Carlene, David (Rosemary), Terri (Tom Moriarity), and Al Jr. (Stacie “Sam” Molzahn), 9 grandchildren Jennifer (Anthony Schmidt), Stefanie (Dan Brown), Maeghen, TJ (Brittany), Tianna, Trisha, Trenton, Blake and Andrew, 3 great-grandchildren Peyton, Carter, and Rylee, and brothers Del Starkenburg (Dale) and Jim Christensen.
