Alaina Joan Petty was 14 years old. She was born August 22, 2003. She was a daughter, sister, friend, humanitarian, volunteer. She was a compassionate human being.

Alaina Petty was one of the first to respond to those in need after Hurricane Irma slammed into Florida. Alaina participated in the high school Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program and volunteered for the Helping Hands program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“Her selfless service brought peace and joy to those that had lost everything during the storm,” her family’s statement said. “It is important to sum up all that Alaina was and meant to her family and friends.

Alaina Petty is described and remembered as a vibrant and determined young woman who loved to serve, and was loved by all who knew her.

She was awarded the U.S. Army’s Medal of Heroism after her death.

Alaina helped rebuild areas of Florida after the state was hit by Hurricane Irma in September 2017, according to her family, “Her selfless service brought peace and joy to those that had lost everything during the storm.”

“While we will not have the opportunity to watch her grow up and become the amazing woman we know she would become, we are keeping an eternal perspective,” The Petty family explained, “We are grateful for the knowledge that Alaina is a part of our eternal family and that we will reunite with her.”
